the wilderness family

We had a blast going on our first family camping trip this weekend. We went to Selkirk campground near Como. The pass to get up there was steep, winding and bumpy, and the views were breathtaking enough that I felt the strong urge to get out of the car and grip the inner edge of the mountain. Crazy!
Evelyn experienced her first campfire, roasting hotdogs and eating smores (we skipped the chocolate for good measure). We went on a little 'nature walk' and then just hung out with each other, playing with sticks and all those other great camping activities. Evelyn forgot to bring her bag of toys that she'd picked out, so she did announce that she was bored every so often. She did find a necklace in the car, though, that she pretended was a 'little baby puppy.' Ivy slept all night happily in our tent and was content just to be with us. We had a renewed appreciation for Lusea, who really is just the best dog ever. She never let out a bark and loved our little hike of jumping over winding streams which we dropped dandylions in and followed downstream several yards. It was a great time as a family. We usually don't go on adventures like that without extra friends or family, so it was a good initiation into our own growing clan making our very own traditions and memories. Yippee for Colorado and it's glorious mountains. I can't wait for us to get out there again soon.

june with the mckenzies

We've been having a great summer so far. Evelyn got her first 'real' haircut, which is SO much easier to deal with. She was a little lady at the salon. We've gone on fun little excursions Estes Park, got a kids museum membership and visited olde town's jumping fountains. Evelyn joined a dance class for the first time. So far she's done a little tap, ballet and even the tango! The last half hour of the class is dedicated to gymnastics, so she's been having fun tumbling around with other kids and listening to her teachers. Ivy has been an angel. So far she is such a breeze. I don't think there could be a sweeter baby out there. She sleeps pretty well and puts up with whatever we do. We've been getting plenty of smiles from her for a couple weeks now and she can spark up a pretty exciting conversation of oohs and ahhs and all those other adorable baby sounds. Happy June, everyone!
