the wilderness family
We had a blast going on our first family camping trip this weekend. We went to Selkirk campground near Como. The pass to get up there was steep, winding and bumpy, and the views were breathtaking enough that I felt the strong urge to get out of the car and grip the inner edge of the mountain. Crazy!
Evelyn experienced her first campfire, roasting hotdogs and eating smores (we skipped the chocolate for good measure). We went on a little 'nature walk' and then just hung out with each other, playing with sticks and all those other great camping activities. Evelyn forgot to bring her bag of toys that she'd picked out, so she did announce that she was bored every so often. She did find a necklace in the car, though, that she pretended was a 'little baby puppy.' Ivy slept all night happily in our tent and was content just to be with us. We had a renewed appreciation for Lusea, who really is just the best dog ever. She never let out a bark and loved our little hike of jumping over winding streams which we dropped dandylions in and followed downstream several yards. It was a great time as a family. We usually don't go on adventures like that without extra friends or family, so it was a good initiation into our own growing clan making our very own traditions and memories. Yippee for Colorado and it's glorious mountains. I can't wait for us to get out there again soon.
